A chat for your XenForo forum
One line in PAGE_CONTAINER. Your forum keeps doing what forums are good at, and the chat covers the part threads are bad at.

One template edit
PAGE_CONTAINER wraps every page, so the chat is on the whole forum after a single change.
It does not compete with threads
A thread is for something worth finding again. A chat is for the evening a match is on. Different jobs.
Moderation you already understand
Word filter, link rules, bans — the same shape as your forum’s, in a dashboard your moderators can reach.
Installing it
On XenForo, it goes here
Appearance → Templates → PAGE_CONTAINER, and paste the snippet immediately before </body>.
Full instructionsQuestions
- Where exactly does the code go?
- One line in PAGE_CONTAINER, which wraps every page, so a single template edit puts the chat on the whole forum.
- Will it compete with my threads?
- They do different jobs, and forums that run both find the split obvious in practice. A thread is for something worth finding again in six months. A room is for the evening a match is on, where thirty posts of live reaction would be noise in a thread and are the whole point in a chat.
- Are my forum members identified?
- Through single sign-on, yes — the name and avatar beside a message are the ones the forum already uses, so a regular is recognisable in both places.
- Does a XenForo upgrade break the template edit?
- A template edit is flagged as outdated after an upgrade and is easy to re-apply, which is standard for any XenForo customisation. The line itself does not change.
